Democrats, to be sure, are also leaning into a cultural appeal when they pitch themselves to working-class voters — primarily a populist appeal bent on uniting the working class against corporate greed — but it is still rooted more in economics than any national culture-war issue.

Generally there's this perception that "working class voters" are strictly motivated by material interests. No matter how overwhelming the evidence is that much of the gops rural base is actually motivated by cultural grievances. Trump did exactly nothing for coal miners. Large swathes of the farming community struggled and lost everything during his trade wars - they still turned around and voted for him again.

Libtards and leftists have been caught up in this delusion for years now - that rurals can be won over and the only reason they aren't voting liberal is because of dastardly "identity politics" despite the GOP operating entirely on identity politics. They just don't get it.
