It's funny watching this type try to talk to really conservative people, and you see immediately why the Democrats lose. For whatever reason, they've completely abandoned the effective civil rights playbook focussing on freedom and finding common ground, and instead jump straight to scolding and moralizing. They are also completely humorless. Yeah, no shit the Democrats are losing - after 4 years of "Frick Drumpf!" these people are losing their minds over "Let's Go Brandon!"
It sucks for me as a maximal-liberty kind of guy because at least the progressives, while authoritarian in their own way, are generally in favor of expanding most civil liberties.

Yes, they have an authoritarian bent as well (they are also against gun ownership), but 197 Republicans just opposed legislation securing the right to access contraceptives and 157 voted against a bill securing the rights to gay and interracial marriage before that. Republicans also tend to be the ones pushing for stricter drug laws, and they regulate speech in other ways.
