Do probiotics have any evidence of positively effecting the gut microbiome? I know kombucha has literally 0 evidence of positive effects, yet its sold fricking everywhere.

Neighbor get some actual lactobacillus not hippy dippy mayofoid tea. We're specifically trying to treat SIBO. I like nature's bounty probio 10

Im not r-slurred. I don’t drink kombucha, it doesn’t even taste good. Are there any studies about ingesting lactobacillus positively affecting the microbiome though? I feel like mfers need to stop drinking 4 days a week and that’d help more.

Just start fermenting some veggies. Some fermented cabbage is awesome on sandwiches and is full of lactobacillus.

I already make spicy kimchi with carrots, daikon, and green onions.

Then you good. That has more lactobacillus than any supplement you're going to take.

There isn’t any evidence that simply consuming live bacteria is enough to have it effect on gut flora. I looked into this a while ago because I loved drinking Yakult and wanted to know if it was actually good for me or just sugar water. I still drink it but as a treat and not a every day thing now.

The issue is just a matter of the stomach being good at it’s job (killing everything with acid) and the total amount of bacteria consumed being negligible compared to the amount of bacteria that already lives in you.

There are tons of drugs that have enteric coatings, though I don't know if I've seen any probiotics that do.

As someone with GI issues that stuff like Yakult and other probiotics have never helped me. Doesn't mean they don't work, could just be that my GI problems aren't necessarily a gut flora issue

If it were that easy to directly effect gut flora we wouldn't need fecal transplants. Going through the back alley makes more sense than braving the pit of acid. Yogurt is still yummy and nutritious though

As someone with some extra serious GI issues involving diarrhea+ visible bleeding they actually help a lot but it's a "when you're already fricked" or "starting to feel it's gonna get bad" kinda thing, not for when you're healthy

Counterpoint, lactobacillus cultures have been shown to grow testicles in mice and anecdotally work in humans too. Happy balls = happy life

I don't know what to believe anymore. Apparently a lot of vitamins in pill form aren't even metabolized by your body properly and may be a waste. Not all of them but some of them

Yup this is true, not every form of a molecule is bioavailable.

In general I take vitamins more as a way to help supplement anything youighy have missed from your food so you don't develop a deficiency than as any boost to health. It's useful for example when your stomach is fricked and you can only handle some crackers
