If you think about it, America is perfectly set up to stop a Chinese invasion:
the Chinese will occupy & base their supply chains out of West Coast cities. These will suffer endless attacks of methheads because of the current population.
The Chinese will genocide Californians, making them lose face (and solving the cali-cel question after the war)
The Westoid cowboy gangs will slow their advance over the Rockies and Great Plains
The urban areas of the Midwest and South will be full of armies of Tyrones and Shaneequa's, who refuse to comply with the US government never mind the chinks. The rural areas are filled with armed rednecks.
If the Hillbillies of the Appalachians can't hold them, simply being in Appalachia will demoralize their armies immensely.
Finally, if they get through all that, dealing with East Coast strags and their stupid accents will prove so annoying they will decide to simply return to China and go back into another millennium of isolation.

the Fallout timeline isnt even that fantastical. The US gets warmer, The South loses potential, especially for agriculture, so America lays an eye on Canada. Then China invades Alaska as a show of force and the US snacks Canada as "defense" but rly Lebensraum.
Much more likely than China doing perl harbour but literally in LA.
Obv Fallout isnt a great geopolitical prophecy, but I think the general idea that a Chinese-US war would play mostly in Alaska then Canada is pretty solid, at least as long China can push.
