Why do they keep trying to make Beto happen? There are way better democratic candidates in Texas, this guy just manages to awkwardly insert himself into every situation and gains media attention. Maybe if Austin doubles in size he'll have a good chance.

Because people in California and New York like Beto. Now you’d think that wouldn’t matter because he’s running in Texas, but the guy helps rake in those sweet dnc donations, which at the end of the day is all it’s about. Money > winning

Well in 2018 there was no presidential election so there was no clear figurehead for the Democratic party. The media needs clear figureheads as it's easier to tell a story about one or two important elections rather than 538 elections. The media made bad choices and despite 2018 being a great year for Dems neither Beto nor Stacey Abrams won. The Dems being unable to just drop a talking point instead did a weird cope of pretending that Beto or Stacey were experts in being able to win over red states despite the fact that neither of them won red states.
