Unions and the government are fricking up public education. Redditors: :marseyraging::marseyraging::ragejak::ragejak::ragemask::ragemask::ragejak::soyjakhipster:

Another example is when a teacher’s job performance is egregiously sub-par. In such a scenario, it is clearly in the interest of students for that teacher to be removed, while it is in the interest of the teacher and the union to retain the teacher’s job. This is why in New York City it takes an average of 830 days and $313,000 to fire a single incompetent teacher.

Lol. Wut? That’s kinda r-slurred.

At a school I went to, most of the teachers were on 1-2 year contracts and had a day where most of them found out if it was renewed. It was really easy to find out if one of your teachers didn’t get renewed because you’d do frick all in class. I had one go on a rant about the ‘system’ and then walk out of class 40 min before it ended. We ended up having subs for the rest of year or a free period when the admin couldn’t find anyone to cover.

It was pretty based since there was no standardized testing, they cut out 1/4th of the final exam since we basically had no instructor for that section.

This was in 9th grade so it wasn't a big deal. I ended up doing IB anyway, but the universities in my country don't require any standardized testing as long as your school was accredited by the appropriate authority. Teachers were fired at the beginning of April so you'd still have a decent amount of the teaching done and most of the teachers let go weren't nearly as a dramatic as that one, just a noticable drop in their effort. Like my senior year biology teacher let us cheat on all of the tests after April, he'd just leave the room for 30min while we wrote.

Wow, how entitled of you. You think because you were in IB you're better than everyone else? news flash: you're not. And you're lucky that the universities in your country don't require standardized testing, because you would've failed miserably. And as for your senior year biology teacher, he should've been fired along with the rest of them. Cheating is unacceptable and you should be ashamed of yourself for even considering it.

You're one to talk, coming from a place of such insecurity yourself. As for me, I have a PhD from Harvard, so I think my education is just fine.

Seems like there could be some kind of efficient happy medium between that and a 3 year fire plan with a 300K price tag.
