I think the outside world just underestimated how sick the Israeli population was of Hamas' crap because now it's fairly clear that they're trying to eliminate the group completely, consequences be darned. The question is whether the leveling of the Gaza Strip with all the associated civilian casualties is justified. I personally don't have any sympathy for Hamas, they can all be executed in the street for all I care.
But not every person living in the Gaza Strip is a Hamas member and may even be opposed to them, just lacking the means to do anything about it.

The majority of the population in Gaza supports Hamas. Out of those who don't ask yourself who still oppose Jews and want them killed - basically every Muslim. Btw you're next on their list after every Jew is dead - unless you convert to Islam.
Do I blame them? Not really, cause they were indoctrinated since childhood. Remember there are kindergarten groups where Gaza children play beheading Jews. But we cannot change their believes. And just like I don't blame an animal for its behaviour I don't blame a person protecting themselves from said animal. So I think Israel can & should protect itself, because if they don't they will be attacked and killed as soon as Hamas supporters have a big enough weapon to do so (Iran nuclear program?).
