In case of Andrew Garfield he was a bit of a social outcast but not in a nerdy loser way but rather a rebellious skater boy way(in fact, the biggest complaint at the time was that he came off as too cool to be Peter Parker ) and it was pretty much dropped with Tom Holland. The social awkward thing was only ever present in the Maguire versions.
