Lindsay used a passage of Karl Marx's Communist Manifesto, stripping out its ideological substance but retaining its powerful rhetorical structure. This was intended as a hoax but is seemingly poorly conceived, given the undeniable power of Marx's rhetorical approach as Lindsay himself acknowledged.
