Long before Pragya Pandey and Adil Hasan first crossed paths in New York, they had both lived and studied briefly in Florence, Italy, during different periods of their college years—falling in love with the romanticism of the Tuscan capital. Later, fate ensured that the duo would meet in their hometown of New York where they bonded over their passion for art, culture and renaissance history. “It was one of those, ‘you meet once and you just know' situations,” the couple reveals about their first date, describing how they fell in love on the streets of New York; from sharing slices of pizza on sidewalks to strolling the city with a coffee in hand.
Soon enough, the couple found themselves planning a surprise proposal for each other. Only, Pandey managed to pull it off first. “I took Adil for a walk to dinner and stopped by the neighbourhood bookstore down the block from our home. The store was kept open late just for us and there was also a violinist. I shared a short poem that I had written for Adil, asking him to marry me. It was private, special and such a New York moment,” she reveals.
When it finally came to choosing a destination for their intimate nuptials, the couple knew it had to be Florence. It's a city that held deep meaning for both. “We scouted for locations across Europe, from the Greek islands to the South of France, but we kept coming back to Florence,” they say. Villa Pitiana, an estate set amidst rolling hills in the Tuscan countryside made for just the right venue with its rustic charm and sprawling grounds. Originally a monastery dating back to the 13th century, its grandeur and understated beauty ticked all the boxes for the celebrations they had envisioned.
The couple admits that it wasn't an easy feat balancing both their religious customs and traditions with their respective families. “We shared a vision for our wedding where our families felt equally included and both sets of traditions were respected, all the while celebrating the love we have for each other, and them,” they explain. To honour their cultures, they decided to hold two wedding ceremonies back-to-back; the pheras as well as a nikah ceremony. The bride and groom also incorporated their own vows into the ceremonies. “When two different cultures or religions converge, there is a fear of the unknown. However, it was during the wedding weekend and especially during the ceremonies, that these barriers were broken. It was a realisation that although different, our traditions are remarkably similar,” the couple shares.

I'll remind @RuvalumKaBaap that a caste of people literally burnt Dalit houses to demand reservation for themselves.

This is the Pandora's Box that has been opened since SEBC. A time will come when groups like Rajputs will demand reservation and you will be able to do nothing. https://t.co/7tm6vgyGzl pic.twitter.com/kLKD6xSRPD
Oppressed castes
Affirmative action
By oppressing other castes

The reporter asks her if she married willingly I think. She doesn't reply, then she gets dragged away.
Not giving all minorities in Pakistan especially refuge here is one of the most evil things this state has done. I understand security issues, economic issues, everything but even so.

"(In 1961) India hosted a seminar on colonialism… Angolan leader J. Ferreira Viana said India’s failure to liberate Goa had retarded liberations all across the world. What had begun as a condemnation of Portuguese colonialism turned into an attack on India’s policy on Goa."
