Boris Johnson's dramatic plan for a military raid on Holland to snatch back our AstraZeneca vaccines

:#marseyemojilaugh:

Boris Johnson memoir quote:

"Britain's top brass filed into my office in No 10, bearing with them hundreds of years of collective operational experience, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe. It was about 6pm, at the very end of March 2021, and after several days of deliberation they had reached a verdict.

"They had seen sieges, firefights, hostage rescues and hairbreadth 'scapes in the imminent deadly breach. It was clear from their manner, however, that they did not like the look of this one, Sarge.

"It fell to the deputy chief of the defence staff (military strategy and operational), Lieutenant General Doug Chalmers, to act as their spokesman. 'Well, PM,' he coughed, 'it's certainly feasible.'

"He explained how we could do it. We would send one team on a commercial flight to Amsterdam, while another team would use the cover of darkness to cross the Channel in ribs (rigid inflatable boats) and navigate up the canals.

"They would then rendezvous at the target; enter; secure the hostage goods, exfiltrate using an articulated lorry, and make their way to the Channel ports.

"'But I have to warn you, PM' – and they all looked at me meaningfully – 'that it will not be possible to do this undetected.' He pointed out that there were lockdowns in place in Belgium and the Netherlands, and the local authorities might observe our movements.

"I considered this. It did not seem an insuperable objection. OK, I said: so what if our movements are detected?

'Well, PM,' he said, 'if we are detected we will have to explain why we are effectively invading a long-standing Nato ally.'

"Of course, I knew he was right, and I secretly agreed with what they all thought but did not want to say aloud: that the whole thing was nuts.

"I beg you to forgive my desperation. It was in the best possible cause. I had commissioned some work on whether it might be technically feasible to launch an aquatic raid on a warehouse in Leiden, in the Netherlands, and to take that which was legally ours and which the UK desperately needed."

"We are giving faces to them all," she said of the work, which was also designed to be a collective artistic hug for murdered trans singer and retired s*x worker Karla La Borrada, who lost her life at the age of 67 in 2016.

Her sculpture for the fourth plinth takes its form from a gruesome Aztec masterpiece, a 15th-century tower of skulls known as the Huey Tzompantli that was excavated in Mexico City. More than 600 skulls have been found cemented into it, a spectacular reminder of Aztec power and ferocity.

But this is by no means an instantly readable political artwork you praise or condemn in a tweet.

MAID comes to bongland

reddit discuss: https://old.reddit.com/r/ukpolitics/comments/1fgw9nh/hugely_divisive_vote_to_legalise_assisted_dying/

I'm curious how someone can simultaneously make the argument that the death penalty is wrong because some innocents will die unjustly and then be in favor of something like this where a small number of people will inevitably be pressured by family or their own psyche into being killed by the state.

:marseythonk:

It sounds noble in theory, dying with dignity but it has here in Canada rapidly devolved into assisted dying for mentally ill etc being talked about. I used to support it but seeing how its getting misused it not a gate to open in my experience unfortunately.

They are advising our Vets to do it

:marseyrake:

Yeah kill the old people, kill the mentally disabled, kill the physically disabled....good job the Nazis didn't win WW2.

BUT YEAH ITS ALL ABOUT DIGNITY

BTW maid (Canada death cult) is responsible for 5% of annual deaths and rising. It is not dignified. It is literally being given drugs that paralyse you so you cannot feel the drug that kills you that simulates waterboarding for a period of 30 mins to 24hours.

But yes it is about dignity.

Interesting claims. Care to provide any evidence on the 5% claim, and the '12 hours of waterboarding' claim?

Actually 4.1% in 2022.

Search on for capybara that escaped from zoo

A "beloved" capybara has escaped from a zoo leading to a desperate search to find her.

Hoo Zoo and Dinosaur World in Telford said Cinnamon fled her habitat and entered woodlands within the zoo grounds on Friday.

On Saturday, she managed to get beyond the zoo's perimeter fence and was spotted on a nearby road.

There have been no further sightings of Cinnamon since Saturday, the zoo said, "despite having teams working around the clock to locate her".

Antonia Harrison, who represents the party in Havant, near Portsmouth, said "something died in me… I just gave up" after Britain left the European Union.

Speaking at the party's autumn conference in Brighton, Ms Harrison told The Independent: "I have not been in Sudan fighting in a war, but it has had a profound impact on me. I am European to my core, and my identity has been ripped out.

Ms Harrison said her life was enriched by Britain's membership of the EU, having lived in Brussels and learned eight languages. "The day after the election, I told my daughter 'this is the worst day of your life'," Ms Harrison said.
