You remember that article about the male Turkey that is so stupid that it would hump a stick with a female Turkey's head on it?
A Turkey so stupid that it doesn't realize that it isn't actually reproducing and isn't successfully mating with anything?
Now, picture a guy who is told he will live with all the money in the world as long as he works 12 hours a day and has no time to date or find a partner. That he will have "Status" and "Value" in society as long as he is too busy to reproduce. That even if he marries it is okay to marry someone who doesn't want kids because kids take up so much time anyways, and even if he has kids, it is the smart choice to have only one kid who may have another generation of only one kid or not have any kids at all. That these are all apparently the smart choices, because they give you the best version of life you can achieve for one generation.
The Turkey is supposed to be stupid for putting in all that effort into not reproducing. Not the man though. He is supposed to be a genius because look at all the useful things he did which his bloodline will never experience. All the smart moves and accomplishments he made that won't live beyond a generation now. Don't you know. This guy is a great man. For he made a tool that helped millions, even though he never reproduced and allowed for those smart genes to pass on through the population.
The Turkey is stupid, but this man is a genius for not reproducing and allowing his genetic positive qualities to spread across the population, instead choosing to dedicate a single lifetime to saving millions.
The man has a wife now, he has a conversation about having his kids DNA tested when they are born but all heck breaks loose and his own mother shames him for not trusting his partner. This man read an article online about the reason that all men are suspicious of women because all the men who weren't died out with enough women cheating over the generations. He is too embarrassed and too meek to use the cowtools and sense available to him however, and allows the women in his life to brow beat him into embracing a reproductive disadvantage that was extreme enough as to kill off all the bloodlines where men trusted their wives to not baby trap them.
Somehow the Turkey is stupid for not reproducing but this man is honorable and a good guy who just had a lapse in judgement by wanting to DNA test his kids.
The world today has you busy all day, offering you a better life only if you give yourself completely to the values of the state. You do not reproduce but live the best life a single self terminating generation could. Your genetic lifespan will never extend beyond your own 70-100 years of life, in all likelihood, the modern world has convinced you to give up centuries to millennia of time from the existence of your bloodline, in exchange for having 4-8 times the quality of life for a single generation, than if you had not.
Was it a good enough deal.
I don't think so.
I look upon civilizations showing the first signs of dying out without a single war or famine, and each time I look and see this silent devastation, so quiet that people don't even feel concern or fear of it, I become ever more certain that it was a terrible deal. A deal that would kill more humans that almost any other calamity in the past.
Is it worse to die at 6 without children or at 99 without children. I would go to the extremes of arguing that it should be placed on the same level as asking, is it better to lose both legs, or just one leg. We know which is better, but at the same time none of them are good or lives worth looking up to. Not unless your only choices in life were always to lose either both legs or one leg.
That is the tragedy of modern society. The tragedy of the silent genocide. The people remain in denial of it, and many even celebrate it, for it is to them a good thing to live a comfortable life that ends with them and a story that goes on no further than themselves.
Perhaps the Turkey was smarter after all. At least while humping the head on a stick, it never crossed its mind to be disgusted by s*x itself.
Perhaps that stupid Turkey will outlive us after all.

Yeah not enough people around. We could really use some more births. 2.1 nigglets to neighbor per neighbor has been the rule for most of human history. Suddenly, a stupid ahh comes along and invents germ theory and synthetic agrochemicals fertilization. Your precious bloodline that has many "boons" which must be preserved should not exist in the first place.
Do you need glasses? You should be dead. Do you have allergies? You should be dead. Did you have the flu, croup, a sinus infection, or vaccines as a child? There is a 60% chance you should be dead.
All problems modern society faces would be solved if chinks, pakis, and Africans followed everyone else's lead and stopped having so many kids. A birthrate of under 1 would be ideal for like a century before returning to 1.9ish.
How many people do you want in the world anyway? 50 billion?

Chinks have 1 kid per couple.
Pakis have consistently declining fertility rate.
Africans have consistently declining fertility rate.
Your neighbors having many kids does not secure your bloodline. Same applies to Japan needing more kids even though global population is still going up.
It is not about how many people I want. It is about the fact that people who do not have a will to life die out. Nations that do not have a will to life die out. Species that do not have a will to life die out.
The struggle isn't a bug its a feature. You don't want suffering, but you do want a guarantee that the little hardships you faced over time had a point.
