They definitely have some kind of personality, my mayo (RIP) chin was braver and would let you pet him without much struggle but the BIPOC's a lot more jumpy and aloof, so even something simple like her letting me scratch her chin feels like an achievement lol

I think they're smarter than they look considering how I've seen mine escape the fence using ways I'd have never considered such as this:

Those are babies! Can't judge them! Most (all?) large social animals are pretty smart and have children that stay pretty dumb for awhile.
