to noooootice they were fricking and I fed the female one (she's not as shy as the male one so she tends to approach us first) a Chinkchilla treat... and whoopsie the male was actually mounted on her and the sound was actually them banging against the metal 
Suffice to say there's no more noise coming from their area anymore

I sure hope so! They're quite eternally BTFO in the wild and a target of many predators so they tend to be timid and have their hiding spots
But I think they already know I'm a pushover so they might just chill and sleep anywhere
