Already watched it this morning.
Not doing recon because it would alert the enemy is incredibly r-slurred, especially when everyone on both sides knows this is one of the most important targets in Europe. They're going to get suspicious about why you're not doing it. Just fly over some other places too.
One thing he didn't mention: They did this raid from Libya on August 1, 1943. This is weeks before the airfields around Foggia, Italy were liberated and repaired. This was a cluster of several airfields that were soon being used by Allied bombers hitting targets in the Balkans and southern Germany for the rest of the war. These were way closer to Ploesti. I dunno if they still would have needed the B-24s to hit it but at the very least they wouldn't have had to fly so far there and back. I guess this is one of those many cases where there's two secret operations being planned and the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.
