The 1840s: Not a Good Time for White House Water

Some historians believe these deaths contributed to the collapse of the Whig party and therefore the rise of the Republican party and civil war. So, in some way, this fecal contaminated water source led to the end of slavery in the United States.

In the American Civil War a huge number of guys died really soon after they were recruited and first went to the camp for their regiment. I wonder if this was from pooping in each other's water.
