Very on brand to enter the race by dropping a huge bureaucratic turd.

Hopefully it's not entirely r-slurred, but I'm not reading all that.

It's definitely r-slurred, EU is somehow getting even more batshit when it comes to AI :marseydepressed:

If there's one thing we don't want, it's economic growth!

You wouldn't want your citizens to reach the soaring economic aspirations of the average citizen in Mississippi, they might get uppity and start demanding things like AC or a functioning car.

Well, that's absolutely and utterly shocking development.

the EU creating no AI of their own but instead leading the charge on regulating AI out of existence is legitimately hilarious

Luckily no AI developing country actually cares about EU's bullshit. We'll just keep on screaming into the void :marseylovecraftian:

!nooticers Reminder that the vast majority of local hosted AI is illegal (inb4: It's not illegal it just fails to meet regulation 546.4 B!) because it could theoretically generate "CSAM"

Gotta protect them digital children (and milk the Americans who have a real tech industry)

Instead of joining the AI race late and gain nothing you force all the others to adhere by your rules or btfo. And you know they will because you're the second biggest market in the world :europeanunionnice:

I somewhat agree with you to be fair, I think people conflate AI research happening with having commercial generative models available. There definitely is research in AI happening, I know of at least one project that is developing AI for data analysis applications for instance. The fact that we don't have any large or well known public generative AI on one hand is a shame because I definitely would prefer to have something of our own, but on the other hand I don't really care since it's main use is creating memes. It kind of has the same novelty as netflix or something- sure I'd prefer to have a local business runing streaming service instead of buying from Americans, but at the same time I don't see it as that important
