Emil is an r-slur who shouldn't be allowed to make any statements on the company's behalf. He constantly says shit he shouldn't, like the debacle with Fallout 4's Nate being a war criminal or that one time he got blamed for Starfield's story and wrote about 19 tweets defending himself, trying to shift blame, while he is the only person who had a "writing" credit for that game. I am confident the suits and marketing people want to present Starfield as a success and an established franchise, so it is expected of them, but Emil should just keep his mouth shut. A shame he failed upwards into a design lead position, as everyone more qualified has left the company by now.
Agreed. You know that Wojak meme "women with a time machine vs men with a time machine?" I wanna make one with a wojak going back in time to stop Todd from hiring that hack back in the Morrowind/Oblivion days.
If I remember correctly, Emil was hired through Pete Hines, as they both worked at the same vidya magazine (either Gamasutra or Adrenaline Vault, can't be bothered to double-check on a Saturday morning). Emil was previously working at Looking Glass and had a few Thief 2 levels under his belt, so I am surprised they slotted him as a quest designer instead of a level designer, which his resume is more suited towards.
Where would anyone more qualified even move to? EA? Microsoft proper? Even Valve's supposedly shit to work for nowadays. Where the frick is a 'competent' AAA dev meant to work at anymore?
The Bethesda veterans went around to various AA studios like Something Wicked Games and Once Lost Games. Essentially going back to smaller dev sizes trying to recreate the charm and quality of late '90s, early '00s computer games. So far I don't think a single one of these studios released something successful and most shut their doors within the first year of their existence. Larping as a small indie studio is hard when you get used to film production level budgets and an environment where blame can be passed on indefinitely.
Welcome, outlander, to the halls of House Dagoth, the Sixth House of rdrama, a place without filthy n'wahs and s'wits. Here, amidst the ancient corridors echoing with the whispers of the past, the insatiable thirst for drama fuels the Heart Lorkhan. Delve into the mysteries that lie within, challenge the accepted narratives, and find your place amongst the disciples of Dagoth Ur. As the lost Sixth House reborn on the ashes of the Red Mountain, we beckon the curious, the ambitious, and the unyielding. We will prove that the current houses are nothing but dogs of the empire
