I'm trying to play it again.

My most recent reply in starfield sub

Honestly I don't expect a good main story :marseyslime: from a Bethesda :marseyvault: game these days.

My issue was exploration :marseymanifestdestiny: was boring :marseycricket2: and enemies are limited.

If I walk around in fallout :marseyvault: or elder :marseydagothur: scrolls :marseysheogorath: I will stumble upon semi-unique ancient :marseypotofsneed: ruins/abandoned military :marseynvgs: base with bandits/raiders every 2 minutes.

Starfield I will have to go through 3 loading :marseyspinner: zone, walk through a barren :marseyeggless: field :marseytradwifedaisy: and find the same generic "randomly generated" outpost I've seen 100 times before :marseyskellington: with the same enemies and the same weapons :marseytf2heavy: and the same layouts

It's just not fun to explore which is the selling :marseyburgers: point :marseyfoxgloveyourself: of a Bethesda. The main quest is just ironic :marseybeanwink: because it's about joining a group :marseymeangirls: of explorers in the least fun to explore Bethesda :marseyvault: game

Basically my exact problem. Most of the issues people brought up were present in other Bethesda games. The real reason Starfield is bad is because they enlisted a developer known for their hand-crafted worlds to make bootleg No Man's Sky. :marseyastronaut2:

Yes the POI system is fricking r-slurred and is the actual problem with the game. Not "loading screens" or whatever the usual meme is, no one would give a frick about that if exploring was fun. But I'm not sure how I would fix it myself, since trying to fit the whole game into a small Skyrim-sized landmass would not fit the space theme. Maybe the lesson is that all :marseyastronaut2: themed games are either empty grindfests or vaporware for a reason and the concept was cursed from the start.

To be honest I appreciate them doing something crazy like this even if it makes for an r-slured half broken game. If every AAA dev was willing to take inadvisable risks like :toddhoward: then maybe some fraction of them would be unique and interesting.

Emil is an r-slur who shouldn't be allowed to make any statements on the company's behalf. He constantly says shit he shouldn't, like the debacle with Fallout 4's Nate being a war criminal or that one time he got blamed for Starfield's story and wrote about 19 tweets defending himself, trying to shift blame, while he is the only person who had a "writing" credit for that game. I am confident the suits and marketing people want to present Starfield as a success and an established franchise, so it is expected of them, but Emil should just keep his mouth shut. A shame he failed upwards into a design lead position, as everyone more qualified has left the company by now.

Agreed. You know that Wojak meme "women with a time machine vs men with a time machine?" I wanna make one with a wojak going back in time to stop Todd from hiring that hack back in the Morrowind/Oblivion days.

If I remember correctly, Emil was hired through Pete Hines, as they both worked at the same vidya magazine (either Gamasutra or Adrenaline Vault, can't be bothered to double-check on a Saturday morning). Emil was previously working at Looking Glass and had a few Thief 2 levels under his belt, so I am surprised they slotted him as a quest designer instead of a level designer, which his resume is more suited towards.

Where would anyone more qualified even move to? EA? Microsoft proper? Even Valve's supposedly shit to work for nowadays. Where the frick is a 'competent' AAA dev meant to work at anymore?

The Bethesda veterans went around to various AA studios like Something Wicked Games and Once Lost Games. Essentially going back to smaller dev sizes trying to recreate the charm and quality of late '90s, early '00s computer games. So far I don't think a single one of these studios released something successful and most shut their doors within the first year of their existence. Larping as a small indie studio is hard when you get used to film production level budgets and an environment where blame can be passed on indefinitely.

You aren't Joker: Folie à Deux a 2024 American jukebox musical psychological thriller film directed by Todd Phillips from a screenplay he co-wrote with Scott Silver. Loosely based on DC Comics characters, it is the sequel to Joker (2019). Joaquin Phoenix reprises his role as the Joker, with Lady Gaga as his love interest, Lee Quinzel. Zazie Beetz and Leigh Gill also reprise their roles, while Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Steve Coogan and Harry Lawtey join the cast. It is produced by Warner Bros. Pictures in association with Joint Effort and was distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
