He would have needed to get out like 2 years ago. Didn't Trump announce his run in late 2022? Neighbors be campaigning for 2 years now.
Maybe (if he's cognizant enough to think) he was worried he'd be considered a lame bussy and his presidency basically would have ended 2 years in? Like why bother working with him to pass bills if he's gonna be gone soon. Or he really thought he could float by like in the 2020 pandemic. Or the people around him (family, staffers) are just r-slurred and were propping him up to advance their own careers.

Dems wanted him to be a one-term or preferably resign early but the Bidens decided to stay in. While his health is clearly failing, I think it's probable he was drugged before the debate. The party wanted a primary so they could insert a glowie, but Biden chained them to the worst candidate in over 100 years.
Biden spent all his power doing it but everyone regrets fricking with him. Gigachad to the end which is why history will bury him.

The first debate is historically the last week of September, Dems broke a ton of norms rejiggering things to get the Trump-Biden debate in June. The entire purpose was forcing him out so they could run a new candidate.
