Event Horizon is a worse movie but you remember it more fondly because of how successful it is at horror mainly due to the things it doesn't show. When I watch it though it always feels like a series of horror scenes that have been edited together quite well, The Mouth of Madness is much more subtle and easily has better writing and pacing imo.

THANK YOU. Event horizon is a great idea, and gave us the truly brilliant layman explanation of how a wormhole works, but outside of that, it was a weak movie that tried too hard to ape the comradery of ALIENS without near enough finesse in its script, making the deaths of the crew just another popcorn pickoff rather than a tense thriller it could have been.
