I feel like that pretty sums it up. Then again, family movies used to have more emotional weight. I can't imagine current Disney doing something like "Old Yeller" in present times and marketing that as family friendly. (also it took me forever to figure out the name of that movie in English, never knew that's what people were referring to when I saw the name in the past).
