This movie is good but kind of frustrating. It gets a lot of the small details correct (Mayan fashion, lifestyle, the appearance of the city, their religious philosophy) but gets the bigger points wrong (the classical Mayan empire collapsed in 900ad, 600 years before the spanish showed up, the Mayans didn't practice human sacrifice on an industrial scale; that was the Aztecs). So the movie comes off as trying to show the fall of the Aztecs but attributing it to the Maya. Which is weird.

But taken solely as a film and not a historical piece it's bretty gud.

I thought the point the :marseyakshually: :soysnootypefast: tried to make was that the Maya didn't perform heart extraction (rather thye just beheaded the sacrificial victims), but that it was possible that the post-classical Maya were aztec influenced into them.

The Aztecs famously sacraficed thousands at a time. The classical maya were more conservative about it. These empires were seperated by hundreds of years.
