the second thread got jannied lmao

Review bombed 100%, homophobic reactions to the kiss at the end it's not a coincidence that 90% of the 1/10 reviews are from Saudi Arabia. Like seriously how does this episode have the worst rating compared to the previous one.

What about Laenor and his lover getting intimate? The show was not review bombed at all for that. Don't know if that is consistent with what the root cause for these negative reviews.

:#marseynoooticer: most peculiar huh?

I imagine some of the bomb ratings are homophobic but some are because of the bad writing. I would give it a 7 maybe because it's too slow, Daemon should've been in Harrenhaul for 2 episodes 3 at a push. Rhaenyra being annoyed at her son who is only trying to advise her and then goes seeking validation from a stranger who helped usurp her a matter of weeks ago. I couldn't really care less about the kiss but I'd like for it to be viewed for what is is, a mistake on Rhaenyra's part and the beginning of her downfall. And also we get this instead of a cool scene of Addam and Seasmoke or maybe Helaena visiting her sick husband's bedside or more Corlys ffs.

Lmao

I'm more surprised there's even that many folk watching it in Saudi.

I watched it and googled as soon as the kiss happened. As expected, it wasn't in the book. Same for Daemon fricking his own mom last week. The kiss was jammed in...ungracefully. Like they weren't hitting the gay quota and someone said "hey, we have two chicks talking alone at the end, we could just make them gay. Easy peasy."

I would have forgiven that show much if monke girl and Alicent had gotten it on fr, old school pay cable style. No chuds are review bombing this episode over the girls kissing, it is the endless parade of tedious board meeting scenes that go nowhere plus excessive BIPOCs in silly wigs that are killing that show.

What's the in-show explanation for Corlys being a BIPOC?

Aegon the Conqueror's mother was Valaena Velaryon and Jaehaerys I mother was Alyssa Velaryon but the Targs are all white.

Asuming Corlys mother was from the Summer Islands he should be many shades lighter. In that scenario Baela and Rhaena should be only 1/8 black and the Velaryons should be BLEACHED out of existence but here they look

Brandon is remembered as a skillful seducer of young women. And rightly so. The documentary gives us a Teena who seduced one very young and inexperienced woman after another. We can get some concept of just how sexually inexperienced these girls were if we consider their easy acceptance of Teena as male despite his primitive attempts at concealing his breasts with elastic bandages and giving the impression of a peepee by stuffing his crotch. His former fiancée, Gina Bartu, repeatedly answers, "I have no idea!" to the question of whether he used a dildo to achieve intercourse with her. The idea of touching a male peepee with her hand seems inconceivable to her, even when that peepee is penetrating her body. Obviously, Brandon's girlfriends were not women who thought of the male body as a pleasure source to be touched and explored. Nor were they women who expressed their own sexuality in any way other than by submitting to male attention. In fact, the interviews reveal that most, if not all, of these girls considered romantic cards and presents of flowers and jewelry the primary way a boy could give pleasure to his girlfriend. It says a great deal that the girl Brandon pursued at the roller rink in his first public appearance as a boy — a magical, romantic scene in the film — was then only thirteen years old.

More disturbingly, Teena seemed to specialize in stealing from desperate girls who regarded him as their only chance at escape from rural poverty. His collection of trophy-like photographs of these people, whom if he were biologically male we would probably refer to as his victims, sounds a sour note inThe Brandon Teena Story. So does the reason Gina Bartu gives for breaking the engagement: because he stole her credit card and used it to buy the ring. Boys Don't Cry, in contrast, equates Teena's murder with the death of Tisdel's hopes of a new life in a less brutishly backward environment. But would the real Teena have actually rescued Tisdel from poverty? He was certainly not above profiting from her financially, as his habitual forging of checks stolen from his girlfriends shows. Because the position from which I analyze, I do not consider Teena an immoral person because he apparently seduced all the girls he could. Nor do I heavily condemn Teena for non-violently taking what he could from these gullible people.

:marseythinkorino:

Before filming Boys Don't Cry, director Kimberly Peirce declined to interview Brandon Teena's mother, JoAnn. JoAnn was upset about the oversight.

Peirce has never given a reason as to why she made this decision, but while speaking with the Los Angeles Times, she said that she wanted to allow "the myth to take over."

:marseythonk:

JoAnn, Brandon Teena's mother, was upset that the filmmakers failed to explain that for several years when Brandon was a young girl, he had been sexually molested by a man. JoAnn said that "Teena" sought counseling in 1991, and began to dress in men's clothing and date women as a defense strategy. "She pretended she was a man so no other man could touch her," JoAnn said in an Associated Press article.

prosecutor in charge of the criminal trial, Jim Elworth, wrote in an email...national media has focused attention on the wrong aspects of Brandon's story. He doesn't think that Brandon was genuinely transgender. He knows this flies in the face of every common assumption over the last two decades. "It wasn't a 'sexual identity crisis,'" he said. "That angle is so overblown. It's just not accurate if you look at the facts. She went to Falls City and pretended to be a male because it made her popular." Elworth clarifies that LGBT issues are important, and said, "It's a legitimate issue, but it wasn't her issue."

Hmmmm....

In fact, Brandon was not the only one murdered. There were three murders on New Year's eve in that Humbolt farmhouse. Lisa Lambert lived in that house with her toddler, Tanner. She worked as a nurse's aid in the nearby nursing home, and in a local bar on nights and weekends, struggling to get by as a single mother. Lisa had been Brandon's girlfriend, briefly; Brandon had wanted to adopt Tanner. But Brandon's eye wandered. He borrowed Lisa's car and drove into Falls City to go out with other girls. He lied about where he'd been. Phillip DeVine was a black man who dated Lana Tisdale's sister Leslie. DeVine had a fight with Leslie so he had come to stay with Lisa.

When word got out that Brandon was pressing charges, Lana Tisdale told her sister that Lotter and Nissen were threatening to put a knife in Brandon.

Ya, how did the two guys figure out where Brandon was hiding?

It's like nooooticing after nooooticing.

The pacing has been too slow.

The show writers are trying to add their own layer of interpretation on top of everything that GRRM has already laid out.

Mysaria already had a solid backstory in the book, the lesbian stuff just feels unnecessary. Mysaria being loyal to Rhaenys because she fully believes she would be a good leader is more meaningful than her staying loyal because they've touched each others kitties.

Mysaria being loyal to Rhaenys because she fully believes she would be a good leader is more meaningful than her staying loyal because they've touched each others kitties.

They don't know how to write friendships without making them sexual. Look how redditors (the show-runners and writers share the reddity mentality) treat every portrayal of a strong friendship between people of the same s*x.

>oh J & M have who have been best friends for years gave each other a hug, they're totally raw-fricking

Always sounds like something a middle-schooler would say.

It's inconceivable to them that two men (or two women) can love each other and care for one another like brothers without being sexually attracted. Some examples are the fan-fics about Frodo and Sam or every time Patroclus is brought up.

It's just unabashed pandering as a result of the casting decisions.

Since Emma Darcy is a theythem bisexual, they know they are pulling in a LGBT audience.

There has to be some justification for Mysaria becoming Rhaenyra's most trusted advisor, so they took their opportunity to inject a gay romance as just that.

However, in bowing to the :marseytrain:strag audience, they simultaneously destroy the potentially strong feminist message of "mutual respect and trust between two women who have both been overlooked, but bring great knowledge and value to the realm".

Idk I find it better than the first season because it is getting down to the core of what makes GRRM's writing interesting - the intrigue. As the dance is only told through grrm's fake history book which contradicts itself on purpose as a narrative device I'm fine with the show being different, but I think they're getting the tone of what makes it good correct unlike dumb and dumber who just turned asoiaf into cgi dragons and big battles, so it's great for being mostly original but staying true to the tone of the author. It's supposed to be a plodding fantasy soap opera inspired by the wars of the roses, not a chronicle of battles and the mainstream reviews and brand tattoo wearing redditards still seem drunk on the last half of game of thrones.

When the dunk and egg show comes out you'll probably see the same thing too and there's NO dragons in that and barely anyone dies

Anyway I can excuse the lezzing because it's in character for raenera since her entire life has been a search for affection and myseria expressed true admiration for her as a person, not as a ruler or even as a targ and of course raenera has psychosexual problems so that's how she manifests it

Idk I read all the published works before the tv show as they were published and some while deployed I loved it for being a gripping story that was mostly mystery and words and stuff mixed with some weird shit. I still contend that daemon losing his shit to his guilt led by alys rivers is the most GRRMlkke writing in all of the adaptations
