O shit, I forgot about that one. I think Out of Africa is still worse. We did a Merylthon a few weeks ago and goddarn is it dull. Visually, it's beautiful, but it's basically a Hallmark movie with an enormous budget for on-location filming and some big name leads.

the description makes it sound like a romcom but its not, and it is a comedy but kind of a cross between a comedy of errors and a black comedy, and now I dont think it deserved Best Picture but on the other hand most of the movies I saw in 2024 were total dogshit which made Anora stand out by default like just for not being total dogshit

The premise is a rom-com but most of the movie is a wacky chase across town with her and goons of the Russian oligarch. Ending sequence is more like a cold shower/slap to the face that recontextualizes the whole story and probably the main reason people like the movie so much.
