What's even the point of these "live-action" remakes when they're always just a CGI cringe fest?

I mean, look at the dwarfs. Same for Mufasa and The Lion King, I don't understand why they call them live-action if it is all animation, except completely soulless because of the lack of cartoon facial expressiveness. Even the Colombian Snow White looks CGI.

Finished The Expanse. What a stinker of a last series. They had to condense it into six episodes and you can tell. It sucks.

Expanse was seriously oversold to me.

My friend kept soying out about how 11/10 amazing it was but it honestly just feels like a video game to me.

I have no clue why he sold it as like a super hard sci-fi show that would blow my mind.

I think one of my biggest nitpicks is the warring factions don't seem to have a well fleshed out political philosophies? It seems like they're all very basic liberal societies.

I made it a bit into S3

Mars is a militaristic planned economy, Earth is unironic corporate/UN globohomo, the belt is split between the space equivalent of the PLO and Hamas. As a whole the belters are complete ghetto-like r-slurs with very few redeeming qualities.

The only "liberal society" is Earth, unfortunately Mars and it's society are sort glossed over and underdeveloped.

Later on Laconia (colonized by Martians) is a fascist totalitarian empire.

I feel like I got more depth exploration about political philosophies from one-off episodes of TNG. Feels way more Star Wars than hard sci-fi as was sold to me.

Just to flesh out my video game critique like this scene literally feels like a video game QTE. It even has the random debris obstacles.

Or like that much earlier scene where two characters are trying to reach the Martian ship after the port is on lock down.

it feels like it's introducing you to the video games stealth and disguise systems. Even shows you how the fancy new AI can have organic faction interactions.

The expense still needs to adapt books 7. 8 and 9. Book 7 is set 30 years later and features the Laconians invading the entire solar system. I wonder if they will ever adapt it.

Agreed, the expanse didn't get the strong finish it needed. but it was cancelled so many times it's a miracle the last season even happened so I'm just gonna read the books at this point to finish it out lol.

My and my dad really enjoyed lord of the rangs season 2 despite everyone trying to get mad that it's not perfect, it's still pretty good popcorn nerdshit with good enough acting and better than the hobbit imo.

Watched Snowpiercer it's absolute chink slop I have no idea why this movie has such good reviews, the story is dead simple and the worldbuilding makes no sense. Then they use this faulty and absolutely stupid universe to draw parallels to the real world and make some point about oppression with all the subtlety of it being hammered into you for the duration of the film. It's peak korean slop- it has overly straightforward, r-slurred plot, an overly fantastic world which does not attempt to stay grounded in any way, and annoying social messaging about the evils of capitalism presented in the most flamboyant, obnoxious way, lacking any sophistication or intelligent discussion. I am yet to see a korean film that doesn't do either of these, they are impossible to watch.

I also watched Andrei Rublev, but my commentary on it would be very long and boring. It was alright but nobody here's gonna like it

Lmao snowpiercer was so bad its insane. I havent watched that many korean movies, but I cant say that any of the ones I did watch struck me as very good. Parasite is another one that is completely overhyped.

As someone who's watched dozens of k-dramas, don't bother with the movies. At best they're as good as a fairly good American movie. (With a few exceptions like Park Chan-Wook's work.) They're not great like the best Chinese. They're not even weird and interesting like French.

The best movie involving Koreans I've seen in years was Past Lives.

I've been watching Blue Bloods, starring Tom "the moustach" Selleck, Donny "not Mark" Wahlberg, and Bridget "android psychologist" Moynahan, among others.

I was only vaguely aware of the show before late last year. I'm up to season 9 now, and it's really good. Probably one of the best police procedurals I've seen.

Family and professional relationships center the story, and there is great chemistry between most of the cast.
