Yeah. 100%. In a young Xmen comic, young Jean Grey, young Iceman, Young Cyclops, and young someone else go forward in time.
There they meet future Iceman who is like a bitter divorced manwhore.
Young Iceman is like, "Wow, old me is so cool." And young Jean just looks at him and is like "Bobby...come on." And he's all confused and she's like "You're gay Bobby". Which is hilarious because the underlying message of the discussion that followed is that Iceman literally hated his gayness so much he willed himself straight and that's why he was unhappy in the present.

You are completely correct. Every one of these characters are thought to be sympathetic by their writers.
And Jean Grey totally brainwashed Iceman into being gay. They just wanted a pretext to turn a major character into a flaming homosexual, and instead it comes off as the psychic forcing her opinion into her 'friend's' head. Just like with the characters, they don't realise their lack of talent tells the opposite story to what they think they're doing.
I haven't heard anything redeemable about actual comics in years.
