Recognizing actors in TV shows :marseyboomer:

Watching an episode of The FBI from the 1960s:

:#marseyboomer:

Peter Graves, Jessica Walter, Captain Merrick from that Roman planet, the Romulan captain from "The Enterprise Incident". I know these people.

Starring Burt Reynolds. Dr. Corby, Mr. Stiles, and Diana Muldaur... I recognize these actors from 5 different roles just on Star Trek shows.

Watching anything made after 2010:

The Old Man was telling me the other day how weird it is to see the guy from One Foot in the Grave when he was still young.

HBO's Oz :#adebisifrown: is fun for this, every now and then you see an actor from there and it's a trip, since they use their normal voice in that show.

Also funny seeing JK Simmons in other media and then youre expecting him to drop n words and trvkes about darkies https://media.tenor.com/YsA97UFaLBoAAAAx/oz-omaha93.webp

I've wanted to watch Oz since it came out, is it good all six seasons?

Here's my personal opinion of the show:

Season 1: Kino of the highest order :marseyabsolutecinema:

Season 2: not as good as 1 but still decent

Season 3: a bit goofy but still fun, I liked it

Season 4 is double the length of all seasons with 16 episodes but split into two blocks (8 episodes each) titles 4A and 4B, but regardless:

Season 4A: Extremely kino, just as good as season 1. We also get :adebisifrown: front and center here

Season 4B: The show starts to decline here, introduces a character that some consider polarizing

Season 5: only gets worse

Season 6: Worst season. Director even admits he phoned in the storylines in here as well

In my opinion, watch until S4 E8. but you can watch the rest if you like, I can't stop you.

I need to start an ozchads ping group one day. Also some more oz emojis would be nice

I saw Jessica Walter on Columbo the other day, I only knew her old-lady roles but she was instantly recognizable.

She's had a very long career and always been really good. The Old Man keeps telling me I gotta see Play Misty for Me. It is kinda weird seeing hot Jessica Walter younger than me. :marseyblush:

I was watching young Sheldon and the grand nagus from DS9 played a character, happiest I've ever been

Anytime I see Odo, Robert Picardo, or Jason Alexander in anything I get so happy

I think in the past there was an understanding that TV was a stepping stone to a feature film career but now it's more segregated with people jumping straight to film or staying on TV their whole career. In fact now going from film to television seems more common. I think it's to do with television gaining prestige and becoming relatively more lucrative.

going from film to television seems more common

There's quite a bit of this in boomer TV too, but it's when they've aged out of being a leading man/lady. A lot of these episodes there's someone who later becomes a movie star and someone who used to be a movie star but has aged out of it.

television gaining prestige

Yeah, back then TV was definitely considered a big step down. Like the guy who played Captain Pike in the pilot had his wife tell him to quit because he was a movie star and he was too good for TV.

It used to be a huge deal when a movie actor did TV, like George Clooney on ER.

I've been watching a bunch of ER recently and especially in the early seasons there's a bunch of guest starring actors who'd go on to make it big in the 00's. Sadly only a few of the main cast had star power.

It also had one of the actors from M.A.S.H. for a few episodes, which might be more in your age range.
