Salary Ranges:

Entry-Level (First Officer):

Regional airlines: $30,000 - $60,000 per year.

Major airlines: $50,000 - $100,000 per year.

No wonder regional airlines can't get Canadians.

That's $20-$40k USD for an entry level pilot.

Why are professionals in Canadacuck and Europoor paid like such shit?

Have you ever met a pilot? Vapid wannabe top gun frick bois.

Thailand is full of white expat pilots (hmmm wonder why)

Imagine being in charge of 67 people's lives and making less than a shelf boy. Kitty/buss-buss is a heck of a drug

Thailand makes sense. Airlines used to be able to pay pilots less because as a bonus perk you got to bang the hot stewardesses every night. Now airlines can't fire stewardesses for being old or fat, so pilots don't get that benefit anymore in the states. Foreign airlines still have standards of decency, so the good pilots go to them.

With !leafs it's because they can. Immigration has been ramping up year over year my entire life supplying a steady stream of r-slur min wage workers and on top of that the sort of people who'd demand better pay and benefits tend to just move to America and work there instead.

Not even europoor pilots are paid that badly. Lowest salary for a whizz air pilot in Albania with no experience would be 65k Canadian

supply and demand -- more people wanna be pilots than were needed, and while they're working they get room and lodging paid for by their employer, plus they usually can fly for free on their vacations. if you're in your early 20s (entry level) that's still a good deal. after a few years, they make a more reasonable salary, still not high, so many pilots leave the profession in their early 30s and do something else.

If that is the case, they wouldn't be short of pilots now. There would be young Canadians in 20s lined up to fill the vacancy.

The airlines would easily have enough pilots if they had increased salaries with cost of living over the past few years. and they know that and knew it back then.

It's cheaper to lobby the government for more immigration, so they kept the salaries low. At least they've been betting on lobbying being cheaper than raising salaries, it's a planned shortage of new pilots. If a right wing government gets into power that may have been a bad bet.

That's the result of paying them less, the market at work. Too many people want to be pilots -> you pay them less -> fewer people want to be pilots. Now they want to skip the part where you raise the pay to attract more people again and just import jeets to do it for even cheaper.

The entry salaries are misleading. Look at career earnings instead. The pilots' unions negotiate for early salaries to get pegged low for two reasons:

  • Hazing new pilots limits the supply of pilots with seniority

  • It's a concession they give as they negotiate more seriously for the salaries of senior pilots

It's sort of like why doctors impose absurd shifts and low pay on new residents.

Yes, the wild conspiracy that unions act in the interest of their members, especially career members. !neolibs

I think it would be harder to find a union that isn't blatantly prioritizing the income and well-being of its oldest members at the cost of literally everything else.

Pretty sure the union only exists at my job in order to give the olds priority access to overtime shifts

Even a union member ought to agree that their union works in their interests. It's not a pejorative thing to say about unions.

that marsey applies much more to people who think we shouldn't automate our ports because it threatens dockworkers :brainletmaga:

Public sector unions are almost universally a massive grift.

Why don't they turn the planes into India trains instead of hiring more pilots?
