The spike in sexual violence was especially sharp in the Greater Toronto Area. The sexual assault rate almost doubled in the York Region between 2016 and 2023, going from 28.0 to 55.2 per 100,000. Sexual assaults were up by more than 30 per cent in the neighbouring Peel Region, from 38 to 52 per 100,000.

I've been meaning to make this post for a while now. I came to Canada as an international student in 2017, completed my bachelor's degree in engineering from a university in Ontario, and moved to Winnipeg in 2020. I currently work full-time as an engineer at a well-known local company. I'm fluent in English and have traveled extensively. Recently, I obtained my Canadian citizenship, and I'm incredibly grateful for everything this country has given me. Throughout my college and professional life, I have never personally faced any major instances of racism. However, lately, I've noticed an increase in negative sentiments towards people of Indian origin. Whenever I visit grocery stores or malls, I sense discomfort from others, and it's really starting to affect my mental health. I've been trying to distance myself from social media, but the sheer amount of hate directed toward Indians is distressing. I often feel insecure and frightened when I come across extreme online comments targeting even Canadian-born Indians.

Also a teacher with a good opinion in that thread:
Oh yes I was a teacher too and I completely agree. People who say that punishment doesn't work are completely missing the way in which it absolutely does work. They see that you punish a kid and that kid doesn't change, so they think the punishment is useless because they think the punishment is only for that kid. But it isn't for that kid; it's for all the other kids watching and seeing what happens when rules are broken. If they see that there is a punishment, even if it doesn't change the punished kid's behavior, then they are most likely going to be satisfied that there are in fact consequences for breaking rules, and probably not going to break the rules themselves, or at least not more than once. If they see that there is no punishment and no consequences for breaking rules, they are going to ask themselves why they should be following the rules at all. They are going to feel like idiots for not breaking the rules sooner, and in all likelihood at least some of them are going to break the rules next time they feel like it. That's why we have punishments; not for the 2% of kids that it doesn't work on because they keep breaking the rules anyway, but for the 98% of kids that it does work on.

Same, I saw someone say that 1 in 4 on welfare in Ontario is an asylum seeker. If that's true it's awful and the system is broken and totally unsustainable. We need a total overhaul of the system. Enough is enough.
The source is a senior government official in Ontario, cited in this Toronto Sun opinion piece:

A Winnipeg man has been charged with multiple offences after s*x dolls designed to look like children were seized from his home.
According to police, officers with the Canada Border Services Agency in Vancouver intercepted a package from China destined to Winnipeg and alerted the police service's Internet Child Exploitation unit.
Winnipeg police took possession of the package on Aug 29 and found it contained a s*x doll anatomically designed to look like a pre-pubescent child. The doll is illegal in Canada under child pornography laws.
"Approximately 20 anatomically correct female dolls ranging from newborn to early teens were located along with clothing/accessories intended for the dolls," police wrote in a news release. "Some of the dolls had been physically altered from their original state."
Of course redditors aren't having it
Gross, no doubt. But I think there is a debate here. Would this doll lead this guy to eventually harming real human children or would the doll be enough for him to get his rocks off enough that he doesn't need to move to humans.

I'm a service provider in Winnipeg. I met my landlord as a client, he promised me I could rent this house is I spent more time with him so I did. Time went on he sent the rental application all was well but he told me that we had to make everything (paystubs etc.) all had to look legit because his girlfriend did all the paperwork and what not. He tried to go back on his work saying he was having second thoughts about renting me the house and that he doesn't think he's comfortable. So I explained to him that he promised me something and If he didn't follow through I would tell his wife what happened between me and him. He said that he in fact wasn't going back on his word and was just expressing his concerns and that we would keep it strictly business from then on. I then signed a lease, I've been here since the 1st of September, on Monday at 9:01 pm I received a message from the landlord
