Anyone writing a book today is wasting their time. There are more books written before the year 2000 than anyone can ever read in a lifetime and those books cover any subject of significance to readers today.
Agree. There's definitely good films, made after 2012, i'm just not really interested in trying to find them amongst all the shit, when there are literally thousands of great films made before then that are worth watching and easy to find.

"zeitgeist" is when sci-fi authors imagine the future as "whatever the big thing right now, but massively scaled up and more efficient". That's why Foundation was all about nuclear power, while contemporary sci fi is about how everyone has an IoT implant connected to the rest of the solar system.
I dunno where you have been for the last 5 years but now it's all about s, queers, and lesbians except now they're rulers of space kingdoms, riding giant mechs, and firing gay conversion beams at the masses. It's very tiring, especially since science fiction already explored the question of transhumanism, but because of white women and mentally ill dudes in dresses we're actually regressing on the topic.
I feel you, the best new science fiction is still written by straight white males lol. Pretty crazy how in 2023 I can just read the name of the author on the cover of a book and know whether to give it a shot or not.
I like Snowcrash because it's such a foundational piece of the cyberpunk genre. It's more fascinating as a look into the minds of the early tech-libertarian mindset that were thinking about the transition to the digital age and the End of History. Obviously, their societal predictions didn't quite pan out, but like all scifi the story itself tells far more about the time and place it was written than about any serious analysis of the future. It's so entirely cynical, yet somehow radiates the starry-eyed optimism that the technologists in the pre-WWW era had.
They won’t cover rdrama. Stay tuned for my forthcoming release: Marseys of the wind and sky - the remarkable true story of one man’s quest to find the truth of it all 🤧

I agree, but my cut off point, for not just books but also movies and tv, is 2012, around when they really started shoving idpol up everything.

Plus, if you're a straight, white male, you could write pure best-selling kino, but get rejected by publishers because you don't fit the idpol bill.
