use filters on fanfic websites to sort out stuff you hate, then start digging for non-crap based on the descriptions. Most the time you'll nope out skimming chapter 1 because you realize the author is r-slurred

bonus advice:

maybe read DLP reviews :marseyhmmm:

https://forums.darklordpotter.net/

This forum has that unnecessary mid 00s edginess :marseyxd:

They're focused on Harry Potter, but review any type of fanficion. Usually I can find reviews of my favorite Star Wars fanfics on there. They have a reputation for being elitist about fanfiction quality :fancywithwine: which used to REALLY piss people off

Downhill since they replaced IRC with groomercord

look, they're fighting :marseyshook:

Space battles also has fanfic reccomendation, their userbase has more g*mers and marvel fans that watch anime, and has multiverse neurodivergents

https://forums.spacebattles.com/forums/story-ideas-recommendations.63/

I don't really know much about them tbh :marseyshrug:

@ticktocktrainbuteepy SB mods are pricks who hate fun and stifle discussions becuase threads must stay "on-topic."

Here's their creative writing forum sorted by Views. Most of the fanfics on there are Worm focused which is a massive webnovel, this is a link to its table of contents, to the point where they subdivided a subforum of Creative Writing into Worm specifically. Views isn't a great indicator of quality but there's a filter and a search thing which are pretty easy to work.

I didn't find Ward that engrossing but I only gave it a couple chapters to prove itself. In terms of webnovels I'd recommend "Taint." It's unfinished and the author seems to have privated the website or something but it's still available through the Internet archive

https://web.archive.org/web/20180310202959/http://lsdell.com/chapter-001-first-floor/

Most of the sloppa on RoyalRoad's Best Rated is at least palatable.

I also have a list of unfinished stuff from various sites that I was bitching about not updating from a couple days ago and can scrape together a list of stuff that actually finished later today if you're interested.

>Prytaneum (Danmachi/Percy Jackson)

>Man off the Moon (Fate/Mass Effect)

>Arana Bleach/Worm

>Crosswinds of Fate Fate/Harry Potter

>Cenotaph Worm (first two are finished and self-contained, third isn't)

>A Dead World (Fallout/Prototype) - Alex Mercer in Fallout

>The Obito/Mass Effect crossover self-deleted

>Game of Champions (Pokemon) self-deleted because the author didn't think it was good enough Reupload link

>Swinging Pendulum (Bleach) - dead

>Son of the Western Sea (Percy Jackson)

>To Play The Devil (Harry Potter)

I would kill someone's to get a Man off the Moon update but the authors gone completely dark for a couple years

He's been doing edits to old chapters. Not sure when the last one was but here's the novel he left on the new version of chapter 23.

I went and got my hands on some magic mushrooms. A lot of magic mushrooms. Heroic dose, ego death amounts of magic mushroom. Yeah. I said to a friend that, "there's something inside me that needs to die." So yeah, got zoinked out of my fricking gourd and danced for the first time in years in pure ecstasy. Like, literally danced with all my swords, getting revelations that I'm years later still contemplating.

This really makes sense, he's always seemed like he's a genuine weirdo. I'm glad he's seemingly better, hopefully he starts writing again soon.

As long as we're discussing fanfics here, I got a few bangers I want to put people onto:

A DBZ fic where Gohan was kidnapped by CHADitz and raised as a saiyan before returning to earth after cell saga occurred. Pretty good: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/9385549/1/The-Long-Road

An MHA/DBZ Crossover fic with Gohan as the main character (The author abandoned it at the best part though rip): https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12959721/1/The-Symbol-of-Peace-and-Justice

A DBZ G*mer Self insert that's actually pretty well written IMO. The author also has some Harry Potter and Pokemon G*mer fics as well: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12573205/1/Dragonball-RPG-Tetralogy

A persona 5 fanfic where one small change in timeline leads to some big changes in the timeline. It isn't entirely homosexual so it's pretty readable: https://archiveofourown.org/works/30228501/chapters/74488923

Sadly, I've noticed fewer and fewer good fanfics these days. It's almost always fujo nonsense. And the subreddit for fanfics is beyond gay, so there isn't anywhere to really discuss fanfics.

I can't recommend Son of the Western Sea enough, it's a brilliant diamond in a cesspool of a fandom.

I can recommend Arc of The Revolution. Kino stuff.

TL'DR : Jaune Arc fails Beacon Academy and becomes basically Big Boss of The White Fang terror group. The "Dust Gear" arc was awesome :marseyagreefast:

Mother of Learning is great @ticktocktrainbuteepy

The Perfect Run is okay but childish and stupid

Rock falls, everyone dies is pretty funny, a good introduction to litrpg that doesn't turn into neurodivergent number crunching.

Never Die Twice is good, interesting setting and story and another litrpg that isn't too neurodivergent but it looks like you'd have to buy it or pirate it since it's a stub now

My #1 rule is to never start anything unfinished and to double check to make sure something marked finished is actually finished and doesn't have some sequel (that's really just a continuation of the same plot line, not a real sequel) that was last updated 7 years ago. If it's not finished it never will be.

But I'm sure if you read fanfics with any regularity you've already learned this

Ward sucks, don't bother. It's like they took Worm and ripped out all the good parts
