Finished The Three-Body Problem the other day and boyyyy do I HATE Ye Wenjie. The fact this b-word doesn't even show the slightest bit of remorse and regret when she finds out the true intentions and plans the Trisolarans have in store for us (what a shocker they're not some morally superior and magnanimous species :marseypikachu2: ) made me sneed so darn hard. What a dumb fricking b-word of a character. Anyone who believes this b-word is a profound, multi-layered character with complicated motives needs to dive head first into a pit of lava. There's no circle of heck deep and agonizing enough for Ye and Mike.

Still, I really liked the book, gonna start on the next one soon when I have some spare time. :marseypeace:

How come the spacefaring aliens need humanity's help for the three body problem anyway

Don't take the title too literally lol. The three-body problem here really just refers to the Trisolaris planet in the Alpha Centauri star system, and how the Trisolaran home planet goes through chaotic eras because of its unstable orbit due to the fact that it resides in a three star system (hence the "trisolar"). The Trisolarans aren't really interested in "solving" the problem but in some prime, stable, Earth real estate. Problem is, humanity's rapid technological advancements meant that by the time the Trisolaran invasion fleet arrived on Earth, around 450 years, humans would have become far too technologically advanced and powerful for the Trisolarans.

Basically, the Trisolarans are:#sciencejak:in alien form that kept on fricking themselves and their planet more and more with each increasingly more desperate experiment to save their planet and to frick with us and our scientific development.

Tbf, all characters in the 3-body problem are made of cardboard, kind of like Asimov's characters in foundation.

ETOcels are all "oh they will kills us but they're good because they're honest and really mean it!", I feel like every single misanthropic piece of media suffers from this. Westworld is another, the "Hosts" were just as wicked as human beings, I don't get why we're supposed to believe they're good and pure.

Man don't remind me about Westworld... I'm still :marseydepressed: about the torpedo dive off of a cliff the show experienced after season 1. So much kino potential down the drain.

It should have been a miniseries.

This scene from season 3 always cracks me up though
