The fricking largest truly open library in human :marseycatbert2: history. ⭐️ We mirror :marseycontemplatesuicide: Sci-Hub and LibGen. We scrape and open-source Z-Lib, DuXiu, and more

I don't know what this means but thanks for more free book sites

LibGen is the piratebay of books, sci-hub has pretty much every scientific article ever published as fas as I can tell, I don't think it ever let me down.

Sci-hub hasn't updated since 2020/21 :sadpepe:

All the varsity neighbors who were uploading shit on scihub were ticked off by Putinf*ggot's war on Ukraine.

I have access to some business journals like hbs and refinitiv at work but it doesn't scratch the same itch as reading articles about how them red-skinned toad neighbors evolved to become poisonous, how the earth's plate is moving around or whatever the heck nuclear parton distribution functions are.

This one is actually pretty good NGL. Duncan does a decent job at describing Lafayette's life and times in America and France. His modern history is way better than ancient history. I'll stand by the revolutions podcast is mandatory listening.

Finished The Three-Body Problem the other day and boyyyy do I HATE Ye Wenjie. The fact this b-word doesn't even show the slightest bit of remorse and regret when she finds out the true intentions and plans the Trisolarans have in store for us (what a shocker they're not some morally superior and magnanimous species :marseypikachu2: ) made me sneed so darn hard. What a dumb fricking b-word of a character. Anyone who believes this b-word is a profound, multi-layered character with complicated motives needs to dive head first into a pit of lava. There's no circle of heck deep and agonizing enough for Ye and Mike.

>"My sunset and sunset for humanity."

Tbf, all characters in the 3-body problem are made of cardboard, kind of like Asimov's characters in foundation.

ETOcels are all "oh they will kills us but they're good because they're honest and really mean it!", I feel like every single misanthropic piece of media suffers from this. Westworld is another, the "Hosts" were just as wicked as human beings, I don't get why we're supposed to believe they're good and pure.

Man don't remind me about Westworld... I'm still :marseydepressed: about the torpedo dive off of a cliff the show experienced after season 1. So much kino potential down the drain.

How come the spacefaring aliens need humanity's help for the three body problem anyway

:marseyconfused2:

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Don't take the title too literally lol. The three-body problem here really just refers to the Trisolaris planet in the Alpha Centauri star system, and how the Trisolaran home planet goes through chaotic eras because of its unstable orbit due to the fact that it resides in a three star system (hence the "trisolar"). The Trisolarans aren't really interested in "solving" the problem but in some prime, stable, Earth real estate. Problem is, humanity's rapid technological advancements meant that by the time the Trisolaran invasion fleet arrived on Earth, around 450 years, humans would have become far too technologically advanced and powerful for the Trisolarans.

Basically, the Trisolarans are:#sciencejak:in alien form that kept on fricking themselves and their planet more and more with each increasingly more desperate experiment to save their planet and to frick with us and our scientific development.

Just finished "My Year of Rest and Relaxation" based on a recommendation from a friend and it's really funny. Anything that ends in a main character suiciding from an on-fire WTC during 9/11 has my exact morbid and death-obsessed tone

Tiktoker r-slurs treat it like it's a feminist allegory or something when it's actually hugely averse as a story to the lionising of the female protagonist; she is unrelentingly manipulative and the writer is not interested in saying anything about gender (finally)

treat it like it's a feminist allegory

This is only way midwits can engage with media now. Everything must be forced into allegorical narratives, because the point of telling stories is all just restating existing political and historical narratives. Easy to consume little allegories that take you from point A to point B without ever needing to deeply engage with the work. Frick the idea of writing to convey complex concepts and feelings that resonate with the reader on a personal level, no it's all just a long winded way to regurgitate Wikipedia article summaries.

Cugel's Saga by Jack Vance. Hilarious read, sort of like if an old school DnD rogue full of wit and peepeeishness was in a Monty Python sketch.

Slight tangent but man is reddit fricking useless for discussing fantasy and most other media seriously. Looked up this book and found most of the posts have a bunch of whining about Cugel being too problematic for a protag. Just full of smoothbrains unable to engage with fiction without any sense of detachment, they're unable to handle "problematic" events or characters without the divine justice that you see in morality plays. Pretty sad to see how fantasy readers are increasingly unable to fantasize.
