You mean stoicism (Greek) or "stoicism" (American)?

Good in small :marseytiny2: amount but taking it to its conclusion is fricking foolish

Stoicism is the ultimate cuckold philosophy. Stoics are proto-Calvinists. Imagine choosing to neuter your own feelings of pride or joy or anger or sorrow because some strag told you it's not "virtuous" or "moderate". Frick off. Anyone who says shit like that is either coping hard or trying to make you feel good about a life of slavery.

The core difference here is in one you have a reasonable and compelling reason to exist and the other you don't. Hope that helps!

Get a frickin haircut hippie. :marseyhippiecrygenocide:

I watched the first clip and it's empty self-help nonsense. :marseymanysuchcases: Stoicism in general has always struck me as corporate :marseywomanmoment2: material repackaged to be marketed to a male audience but I'll own up to the fact that I've only read excerpts of Seneca when he/it comes up in discussions of St. Paul.

Stoicism good, but self-declared online "stoics" are r-slurs in >90% of cases. I personally like Marcus Aurelius.

I've listened to some discussions surrounding his Epicurean vs Stoic "providence or atoms" lines in the Meditations and it seemed (I'm being a true sophist since I admit I :didntreadlol:) like he repackaged Plato without adding anything to the conversation as a thinker, but I'm sure he would've been someone fun to talk to and I doubt I'll ever contribute anything novel, either.

Christianity owes a great deal to the inheritance Stoics offered vis-a-vis virtue ethics so I probably shouldn't speak ill of them.
