I read 'Manhood' by Steve Biddulph 1994. It is a self-help book focused of the how to overcome the stone cold fathering of the mid-century. Many of the problems identified (e.g. absent fathers) have just gotten worse since it's release so it's a bit sad to look back on because the author has a lot of hope.
It puts a lot of faith in the upcoming men's rights movement which is funny in retrospective and it does a lot of chud style noticing about single mom's etc so wouldn't fly today, but it was 'viral' back when it was released.
Starting on 1984 now.
