Nearly done with Book of the New Sun.

It's a masterpiece, it's insane, 10/10 would recommend

Is it really that good? Got a dusty paperback in my room but been apprehensive of years of it failing my expectations. I would be sorely disappointed if it wasn't Hyperion/Dune level since I've been craving a sci-fi book on that level for decades.

It's on all those "best books of all time" lists for a good reason. I think it's easy to bounce off of it because it's hard to understand what's going on until about halfway through the first book, but if you stick with it all the pieces start falling into place.

Also it's four books (or two omnibuses) so your dusty paperback might be book 3 or something, so be careful about that.

Dracula

Fun to see the science fiction elements of the 1890s, like the cutting edge electric searchlight that makes a prominent appearance and blood transfusions an audacious and risky technique

I love Dracula: it's not really about Christianity vs vampires, it's a story of the triumph of science and reason against ignorance and superstition

I read 'Manhood' by Steve Biddulph 1994. It is a self-help book focused of the how to overcome the stone cold fathering of the mid-century. Many of the problems identified (e.g. absent fathers) have just gotten worse since it's release so it's a bit sad to look back on because the author has a lot of hope.

It puts a lot of faith in the upcoming men's rights movement which is funny in retrospective and it does a lot of chud style noticing about single mom's etc so wouldn't fly today, but it was 'viral' back when it was released.

Starting on 1984 now.

Went to a bookstore with some friends and bought the first 4 hitchhikers guide books, I've read the first 2 before and part of the 3rd so I'm excited to go through them again.

Just got the Bonehunters. I don't usually take suggestions from Reddit but have really enjoyed Malazan.

The first three were amazing and I agree they were better but 3.5 was worse and after getting through 4 & 5 I took a break and haven't gone back yet. How much I liked that series is why I decided to listen to Reddit and give Malazan a shot
