[petty]I don't like self-professed Oxford comma fans

It would be just as ambiguous with a comma before the 'and'.

I don't care if it's used or not, but there are certain group of people who feel very strongly about the Oxford comma.

NO FRICK YOU ANOTHER COMMA WOULDN'T REMOVE THE AMBIGUITY IT COULD EITHER BE A LIST OR A DEPENDENT CLAUSE

Why would you use a comma there to refer to seperate descriptions of Netanyahu? It makes no sense. Having a comma there makes it explicit that is a list.

Because you use commas to separate dependent clauses. If my oldest friend was named Marsey I could write.

I had diner with Marsey, my oldest friend, and my mother.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Yeah you can write that, but it would be grammatically wrong

Jump in the discussion.

That's dumb and the oxford comma isn't.

I think it's clearer that Netanyahu is not a Hamas military chief than a former Israel defense minister.

I think the ambiguity without the Oxford comma is funnier but it is actually less likely to cause genuine confusion

You would put the item with the dependent clause after the and, if you weren't a moron

I always do oxford comma for readability. Unless im in an insane character limit crunch even then rewriting stuff yo be more concise is usually better.

DON'T YOU KNOW ABOUT EMBEDDED CLAUSES?

Not what's happening there. I do sympathise; it must really suck when your special interest is something you're wrong about.

An Oxford comma could cause "a former Israeli defense minister" to read as an embedded clause 🙄

Jump in the discussion.

You are a shitty writer if you embed a clause inside of a list. Good writing means the message is clear.

If Netanyahu was a former Israeli defense minister tell me what is wrong with the sentence:

The I.C.C. issued arrest warrants for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a former Israeli defense minister, and the Hamas military chief.

Unlike the Oxford comma case, theres a better and unambiguous way: .." for prime minister and former isrseli defense minister bibi netanyahu, and the hamas military chief"

The problem with the sentence is that its r-slurred. Hope that helped
