I'm not a true /lit/izen but when I occasionally browse I don't get the sense that it's some /pol/fugee center. Of course anything not explicitly left wing is probably reich wing to these journos
4chan jannies are generally pretty neurodivergent about banning politics from not /pol/, to the point you are more likely to randomly get banned for getting close than having to see pol rants on many boards
The members of /lit/, 4chan's literary subforum, love Dostoyevsky, Joyce and Nabokov. They abhor the gatekeepers of traditional publishing and the moral pieties that beset academia in the 2010s. They've created their own recommendation ecosystem in the form of homemade charts, huge Jpegs which serve as visual reading guides. "Start with the Greeks," the most famous one says, leading beginners through an annotated flowchart from modern mythological retellings to Homer and then, eventually, Aristotle. This advice is dished out to wannabe autodidacts on /lit/ so often that it has become a meme. ("I will not start with the Greeks," says a gun-toting civilian in one image, as soldiers surround his house and order him to read Plato.)
I'm amazed the New Statesman would release an article so pro-/lit/ that basically admits the left fricked up ceding these ground to the right and it now fills an important niche.
You didn't realize? The left lost social control last year. It was fairly obvious for anyone that was paying attention.
Expect a bunch of people to suddenly notice things that have been obvious for over a decade. Soon you'll see lit people notice that publishing has been taken over by white women determined to publish trash.
This June party attention to rainbow flag profile pics on Twitter. They either won't happen or will last less than a week.
What happened is that leftists lost their influence over the big tech firms. What first started this was when their workers started striking over social issues - the first such strike I remember was the Spotify Joe Rogan strikes. Corpos hate strikes, especially over business decisions. It wasn't immediately noticeable then, but the loss of power started to crystallize over the next four years, as the Biden admin started filing a lot of anti-trust lawsuits against the Big Tech firms. The final nail in the coffin obviously came when Elon bought twitter and fired 80% of twitter's workforce. Turns out that - in the non-unionized tech world, where the average dev isn't really that differentiated from other dev's - you can just do that and your core product will keep on working fine.
And then every tech company started following suit firing parts of their workforce and telling their employees to frick off with their ideological fights and get back to work(see: the Google Palestine strike firings). And that completely crushed the left's power over Big Tech.
Everyone knows that posting on 4chan is a full time commitment, I mean, they were probably brought into existance by some sort of Louis-Claude de Saint-Martin derived ritual if you really think about it. Hardcore!
Very impressed by the stable geniuses posting on /lit/ in 2025.

If u cede an inch of politics to these people, they will drown the site in political spergery.

You would just be ceding the site to the leftists. There are a bunch of users here who are unironically commies.
