Here's the discussion thread of Franz Kafka's The Metamorphosis (Die Verwandlung).
This will be a single discussion thread for the entire novella as it is too short for multiple threads.

Kafka is the quintessential Sensitive Young Man (Literally Me) I enjoyed the book greatly. His prose is quite unusual in how it sucks you in.

Fellas is it gay to read? You're litterally letting a man's words suck you

Do you think Gregor was turning more animal like at the end?
While he understood everything, it seems like at the end he was more focused on looking for foodstuffs than paying attention to the fact his sister wanted to get rid of him.

The dehumanisation was complete, he ceased to see himself as human anymore and lacked any confidence to assert his being so reverts to immediate instinctual concerns.

My first impression after reading this years ago was that is was about a man becoming a cripple in the late 19th/early 20th century.
At the time if you were supporting your family like Gregor and you woke up with some kind of neurological disorder and could no longer work then you really were just a burden on your family. The sort of guilty relief of the family when Gregor finally dies is very sad

I read this so long ago I don't remember much. I think the moral was that the world would be better if all salesmen died.
