Attention !bookworms and !classics
Our next book club reading will be "Petersburg" by Russian author Andrei Bely.
Written between 1913-1916 and initially published on a serialized manner, the book covers the story of a young man who becomes involved with revolutionaries who tasked them with a job, to kill a high ranking tsarist official, his own father.

Here's the free epub for you guys to download it.
The book consists of 8 chapters, so ideally we'll cover 1 per week but before committing to another failed bookclub I'll ask how many of you want to participate.
For those who're in, another option is to do one chapter on a bi-weekly basis. Let me know in the comments which one you prefer (one chapter per week or one chapter every two-weeks)

We'll have our first thread on Tuesday, January 28th. Beware that the translation you pick is from the original 1913 version, not the 1922 version. We'll cover chapter one on the first thread.

Well, the first Russian novel was our most successful bookclub. Also, is not a 1913 translation, but the translation of the 1913 edition (the original Russian was published in 2 editions and there are modern translations for both).

And I thought you were going to link the siege of Leningrad instead of some burgerland civil war battle.

You don't even know about this? It was a really big deal!
We were trying to cut off railroads to Richmond. Either that or bleed them dry trying to protect them. They tried to escape but our cavalry fixed them at Appomatix and Lee surrendered, ending the war.
It's a big deal!

The book has 8 chapters (each chapter has around 70-75 pages on the printed Penguin edition) so we're talking about 10-12 pages per day if as to complete one chapter per week.
After the 8 weekly threads I normally give another couple of extra weeks before the final thoughts thread.

So you're telling me it's a chapter book not a picture book?
(When we were around 8 years old and most of us (obviously not me, I was a total idiot savant) were still not quite done with learning how to read, the kids divided book into these two categories.)

Set in during the 1905 Russian Revolution, an upper class young man is tasked by revolutionaries to assassinate his own father (a high ranking official in the Tsarist Regime).
You can give it a try and quit if you don't like it.
And if you happen to enjoy you can finish it earlier and just comment on the threads what you remember.
What other Russian author's books did you read?
