Usually not beyond the setting or atmosphere created as a result. Really, except for Sekiro, these games do not have a story, but they do have world building.

the coolest thing about fromsoft's storytelling is that most of it is so open ended that people even argue over the explicitly stated stuff.

Let's be real, he just doesn't enjoy writing this book anymore. It's too stressful (too many characters and storylines), plus the pressure is so high, disappointment is virtually guaranteed. At the same time GRRM is too proud to actually admit this to himself. So he leaps at every project around him, while coping about how "WoW is totally coming guys just hold on".
