Nerd went from descriptive (I have these weird hobbies/interests, therefore I'm a nerd) to prescriptive (I want to be a nerd, here are fandoms that will get me nerd kudos) and whatever was left got crushed by anti-gatekeeping (if you're only reading LotR as a status signal, as is everyone around you, why not swap it out for zero-effort Brando Sando slop?)

Im old enough to rember when being nerd made your undesirable. Lowest of the life froms. It wasnt just your hobby and likes. You looked like looser. Those who were smart enough or could hide fact they were nerds or enjoyed nerd stuff hid it. I rember when energy drinks became thing and every energy drink other then red bull was what nerds drank and it was ick.
Then at 2010s it changed and i just dont get it. Also its strange how i once considered myself for being less the nothing for being "nerd" in olden day. See modern nerds absolutely pathetic. Beneath me.

Worldbuilding just needs random interesting ideas loosely joined together. Writing needs a developed sense of artistry to be good.
I was at a roleplaying game convention recently and two of the writers on different panels self-admitted to being failed fiction writers before they got into TTRPGs, which I thought was interesting.
