My theory on Jordan Peele is that he's doing two unusual things at once: he's creating original films without franchise tie-ins, sequels, or derivative nonsense, and he's casting black actors as the leads. I think the critics are obsessed with the latter, but audiences probably like the former (even if they are not aware).
Personally, I admire that he's not doing Capeshit 56: Lady Thor, CPA.
I agree with this hes trying out unique things, which is great. But I can't even get myself to watch his other newer movies because of the peepeeriding the first movie got. Someone told me I didn't probably like it because I didn't understand american race relations... but come on.

This is a ridiculous comment and shows how little you know about film. "The Shape of Water" is a beautiful, moving, and well-made film that deserves all the acclaim it's gotten. It's not "tokenism" to recognize and celebrate a great film made by a diverse group of people.

I rewatched get out and it’s such a mid horror movie tbh. I will let it slide though because it gave Peele enough acclaim to make his own stuff. Us had a cool concept but poor execution while Nope is hands down my favorite movie this year.

My wife and I hated it. I thought some of the visuals were kind of cool, but almost everything else about it was completely r-slurred

Yea I've always liked his movies because I know I'm getting something new. Might be r-slurred (us) but at least it's new

It has a woke theme so its the perfect bait for the "everyone who hates it is a racist/sexist/too dumb to get it" angle.
I'll add in the shape of water. Del toros worst movie by a long shot but the most acclaimed because its full of tokenism.
