Noooo you don't get it the pinnacle of storytelling is having to read through 40,000 words of poorly formatted text scattered across 30 wiki pages to understand why [REDACTED] #34 was actually [DATA EXPUNGED] #905!!!!
the bigshot site authors are highly insular and have higher standards for newbies than themselves. It's an echo chamber where 'epic random scientist OC' and meta-omni-cata-pataphysics are proliferated instead of mocked into irrelevance like the shitty devices they are. Funny thing about that Admin Bright guy is that apparently he's a male feminist.
Also natural scope creep. Everyone tries to outdo their predecessors in scale instead of writing a good skip.
The worst thing about modern SCP is the 50-page-long thesaurus with a link to another 50-page-long SCP every other sentence (required reading), annoying "This page is very legit!" HTML, and all those random catchphrases they throw around, what happened to just "Safe, Euclid, Keter"...
same with nosleep, drastically reduced in quality. but as communities like that get larger and more mainstream, quality tends to go down as quantity of posts goes up. however there are still some really good gems that pop up occasionally
I've never really been one for horror, but I'm pretty sure that's just all online writing communities. I got excited hearing about the concept HFY for the first time. I was about to make a post here bitching about it it was so bad. There's a couple good series, and a handful of decent short stories. That's it.
Just thinking about how much time I sank into some of those series hoping it'd get better makes me seethe. I could type for hours about some of that shit.

The more prefixes you add to your new plot device the better the writing is, I don't make the rules
