SSN were never too thought out, I think they only got some real security stuff in 2009 but all the previous ones were already crackable

it was also never meant to be used for identificaton purposes. The original cards specifically said "not for identificatiom purposes" on them

yeah idk why they were ever treated like the sole identity of people when its some string of a few numbers, half of which are birthdate related. Probably should have just given passports or something at birth, which aren't "full" since there isn't a photo and once you're like 18 you need a photo
