Being the pickmeisha that I am, I love men too much and have dated too many trans in the past to ever side with the TERFs. I tried watching rad fem videos like everyday to radicalize myself so I could at least pass as one (see what I did there? hee hee) and potentially join Ovarit but it didn't work at all. They are just so unlikable, my god.
This made me question myself, "wait, why am I desperate to join a TERF forum just to listen to a bunch of lesbian TERFs complain about peepee?" If reddit didn't nuke these basement dweller subreddits, it would have never caught my attention. I didn't get radicalized even though I tried to but think about how many other women who are going down that route out of curiosity. I know someone and I feel like they are seriously being groomed by rad fems. I can't do anything about it, you know.
I'm not the feminist type but even I got a bit riled up when it happened, "first you came for the incels and I let it go even tho I love reading their cope but now you are coming for women?" Even when you don't agree with anything these women say and believe, it's still too much history to silence women. Heck, women in most parts of the world are still being silenced for the stupidest things. Silencing women is never a good look. I'm surprised that they got away with it. I'm also so embarrassed that more women didn't stand up for these women. I think women should be allowed to say anything. I mean you can still hate their guts for it but removing them from the conversation just amplifies their message. Hence, the Barbra Streisand effect. Women related subreddits are already very rare and small on here. They are constantly being brigaded by men. If we are talking about the hate speech and stuff, can we handle men going after women constantly on this platform first or like ever?
We all like to believe that we are or can be tolerant but these movements are advocating in lightspeed. The moment you learn to understand something and still processing it, there are like 20 others popping up. Meanwhile, people with mob mentality are hounding you from the back and watching every little thing you say just to bring you down. It doesn't matter if you are purposely being a bigot or you simply disagree or just don't know enough. You are going down. So, how long can you keep up being progressive? If you were in the wrong, wouldn't you also rather be corrected with compassion instead of being shunned as the most terrible human ever?
Suddenly, I went from not taking TERFs seriously to wanting to know what they were saying and why it was such a controversial no no topic. I bet reddit (due to sexism) didn't think that women could code and would be able to come up with a similar fairly complex social media site.
While I don't agree with a lot of things Ovaritters (?) say and oh, boy how I enjoy reading their COPE, I have to respect them for picking up their own shit to build something and not playing into the stereotypical gender roles. No offense, ladies of reddit but this has been the most badass exit from women that I've seen online. They came up with a solution for themselves while many here just complain about how their spaces on reddit are being invaded constantly by men. It will never change because reddit is run by men and many other social media platforms are the same. These women broke down blue and pink gender stereotypes during their exit by building something that is often stereotyped to be developed by men and trans. It's their big "frick you". I have to give them that. People can fluff this up with many articles they want and cope about how the TERFs lost. Be honest and accept this is only the beginning especially with what just happened in the UK. I follow many trans youtubers and all of them are very worried about all of this.
If you look back in history, trying to silence people doesn't really work unless you are willing to commit genocide. So...
