It’s a place someone can feel comfortable reaching out to because we discuss topics people don’t openly say in public.
While there are definitely people who are genuinely bad, shitty people on this site, they’re the minority and there’s plenty of people on here like me and others who have been in similar situations and can recognize it in others and don’t mind talking somebody down or humoring their manic episode.
If it’s 3am and I’ve got a gun in my hand, full panic attack, and need talking down - and somebody on the internet who shares the same sick humor and culture with me is available and willing to deal with my bullshit - I’d much rather do that than go to some family member or friend who may not understand or gossip to other IRL people - or worse, contact an authority that might lead to long-term life implications.
