Plot twist: Russians announce that Nord Stream 2 wasn't actually severed

https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/swedish-submarine-rescue-ship-heads-to-investigate-pipeline-sabotage

Gazprom issued a statement today saying that Nord Stream 2 may still be operable. The Nord Stream 2 pipeline is actually comprised of two parallel lines, one of which the Russian state gas company says appeared to be untouched.

Really makes you :marseyhmm:. Why would the US commit such blatant aggression against their allies but choose to spare Nord Stream 2? :marseyhmmm: It's almost as if someone is trying to create a dispute between the US and Germany about removing sanctions on Nord Stream 2. I wonder who would want that? :marseyhmm: Is there a country where one of their primary goals in foreign policy for the last 75 years is to drive a wedge between America and its European allies? :marseyhmmm:

Let’s pick apart this shit article for fun, because what it’s saying makes no sense to me. I have an intimate knowledge of this industry. I don’t read news anymore because the glaring flaws in topics that I know about has taught me that literally nothing they say can be trusted, ever, under any circumstances.

First, conceptually, fundamentally, it makes no sense. The article seems to be implying that it’s somehow getting product from an upstream compressor station. Nord2 was never commissioned, so it 100% was filled with nitrogen (not natty gas) and SEALED at both ends. It would not just be sitting there, decommissioned, filled with product, under any circumstances. That means that if there was an additional leak, it was just the head pressure shifting due to tides forcing a little bit more nitrogen out.

The idea that the pipeline is somehow getting gas from an upstream source (???) and that this indicated that it’s just dandy (???) and the pipeline jannies can’t explain it (?????) is patently r-slurred. Let’s see what the jslurs have to say:

Whatever, the case, Gazprom issued a statement today saying that Nord Stream 2 may still be operable

How, do, I use, commas? I will, just stick them all over, the place to be sure.

After gas stops leaking from the affected pipes, saltwater will rush in, causing corrosion. This, coupled with the possible forming of ice plugs in the lines that would need to be cleared, could make repairs cost-prohibitive.

This is accurate, and I posted a comment in the original thread saying the same thing. I’ve plugs can also cause additional ruptures upstream/downstream, it happens fairly often in construction but rarely on completed lines

Experts and observers have noted that the unexpected increase in gas flowing out of the breach in the Nord Stream 2 pipeline can only come from one source, though the exact reason could still be innocuous.

:marseyconfused:

The Nord Stream 2 pipeline is actually comprised of two parallel lines, one of which the Russian state gas company says appeared to be untouched

This is the most perplexing part. Parallel pipelines are fairly common, but everywhere else in the article it refers to Nord2 as a singular pipeline. Is Nord2 a dual lay, meaning 3 total pipelines? No one knows, because these jslurs can’t comprehend what they’re writing. I’m pretty sure they just got confused and thought that Nord1 and 2 were the same thing for exactly one sentence

@Redactor0 this turned into a really long sneedfest and you should pin it so we can all :marseylaugh: at the j slur BIPOC r-slurs

why is "dual lay" = "three pipelines"?

both nordstream 1 and nordstream 2 have two pipelines each. each pair follows a very different route.

there were three explosion sites. both nordstream 1 pipelines are damaged, one nordstream 2 pipeline is as well.

Statement from Gazprom:

Pressure has stabilized in the damaged gas pipelines of the Nord Stream system.

The pressure in string A of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline and both strings of the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline has become stable after the occurrence of the ruptures, and gas leaks have stopped.

Gazprom is working to reduce the pressure in string B of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. For that purpose, the Company is pumping natural gas out of the pipe. This will make it possible to safely inspect string B for integrity, as well as to reduce possible environmental risks in the event of possible gas leaks.

If a decision is made to start supplies via string B of Nord Stream 2, natural gas will be fed into the pipeline after the system is checked for integrity and the possibility of supplies is confirmed by the supervisory authorities.

Since you seem to know a lot about this I’ve been curious, how hard is it to actually sabotage a pipeline? Could you just set off a bunch of depth charges in precisely in its vicinity or did the explosives need to be in contact with the pipeline itself?

It is unbelievably, terrifyingly trivial. Critical infrastructure is in a constant state of extreme vulnerability. I wrote up a much more detailed response but then I realized :marseynotesglow::marseyfedposthmmm: so this is all you’re going to get out of me.

Jslurs exist for pushing narratives. What do you think of the Power of Siberia 2 gas pipeline?
