The rupture of the pipelines led to the largest recorded release of methane into the atmosphere. Methane is very powerful greenhouse gas. A warmer climate isn't good for mammals but it is good for reptiles. So who would benefit the most from Russia burning off the gas they can't sell and Nordstream emptying large amounts of methane into the atmosphere?

What do you even need to do it? Like one guy with a diving suit, some basic explosives, and a boat. Honestly surprised we don't see terrorist attacks targeting stuff like this, it's not like coast guards have every inch of the thing under constant lockdown, random ships cross it constantly and smuggling shit through a port is braindead easy. I think pretty much any nation on the planet could do it if they actually wanted to.
